About The Artist
The award-winning artwork of Lisa Begin-Kruysman reflects the artist's desire to combine a love of painting and antique postcard collecting.
While majoring in Psychology at the University of Connecticut, Ms. Begin-Kruysman attended several art and design classes. In 1990, she traveled to Northern Italy to participate in an oil painting workshop and decided to pursue a career in art.
A former recruiter for Home Box Office, the artist "discovered" the beauty of vintage postcards while exploring antique shops in New England during a business trip. Recognizing the artistic potential of these miniature works of art, she began using the postcards as a focal point of her work, "expanding" the image of the original card onto the mat with acrylic paint. Many of her works depict images of the New Jersey Shore area from the early to mid 1900's.
Working with her growing clientele, Ms. Begin-Kruysman continues to enjoy designing unique one-of-a-kind custom-made creations, often using cards from the private collections of those commissioning her work.
In 1996, the artist's work was featured in the entertainment book titled, Home for the Holidays, published by Harmony Books and written by a much published, long-time customer, John Hadamuscin. Her work is currently displayed at several shops and galleries in Ocean and Monmouth counties and is exhibited at quality fine arts and crafts events throughout New Jersey and Connecticut. She has also written a monthly column for The Montclair Craft Guild's newsletter for the past nine years and currently serves as the guild's Vice President.
A former resident of Bergen County, the artist now resides in Ocean County, New Jersey
